Our Story
Indian (Sub-Continent) Women Empower (IWE) was originally founded in 2019 under the banner of Indian Women Empower — a grassroots initiative created to connect and support women within Sydney’s Indian diaspora. What began as small local gatherings and cultural programs soon evolved into a vibrant community network advocating for women’s safety, financial independence, and leadership.
By 2022, as our membership and partnerships grew across New South Wales, it became clear that our purpose had outgrown our original boundaries. In 2025, IWE officially transitioned to its new identity — Indian (Sub-Continent) Women Empower — embracing the broader community of women from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, united by shared heritage, values, and aspirations.
This evolution reflects our belief that empowerment knows no borders. Our rebrand represents a modern, digital platform that celebrates every woman’s voice, amplifies stories of strength, and builds bridges across cultures. From our origins in Sydney to our expanding digital reach, IWE continues to stand for dignity, opportunity, and unity — proving that when women rise, entire communities thrive.
Who we are
The Indian Women Empower (IWE) initiative, established under the Community Multicultural Resource Centre (CMRC), is dedicated to advancing the empowerment, leadership, and visibility of Indian women in Australia. This Governance Charter defines the vision, mission, structure, roles, and responsibilities of IWE’s governance framework to ensure clarity, accountability, and sustainability.
To empower Indian women to lead, thrive, and inspire, while fostering inclusion and representation within Australian society.

Governance Structure
IWE operates under the guidance of the CMRC Board, with strategic leadership from the CMRC CEO. The structure includes an Executive Committee (ExCo) and an Advisory Committee, which support program delivery, community engagement, and strategic direction. Volunteers form the heart of IWE’s activities, working alongside these committees to deliver initiatives that empower women and strengthen communities.
